PLEASE NOTE SWIM TEAM TIMES ON THE SCHEDULE ABOVE:

YMCA SHARK SWIM TEAM PENTATHLON SWIM MEET IS USUALLY THE FIRST 

SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER

(THE YMCA WILL BE CLOSED THAT DAY) 

FOR LAP SWIM, YOU CAN CALL THE FRONT DESK TO SEE IF ANY ACTIVITIES IN THE POOL

WILL LIMIT THE LANES AVAILABLE (SUCH AS ROUTT SWIM TEAM PRACTICE OR MEETS) 

Open Swim

ALL those swimmers 12 years old and under MUST be accompanied by parents in the pool area or must be part of a Bob Freesen YMCA camp/afterschool activitiy.

 

For Family Swim

This time is meant for a family group activity. Those swimmers 13-17 years old must have a parent (or guardian) sign the swimmer in with the guard and list where they will be in the building. Guard-allowed exceptions: Must be approved by lifeguard on duty or Aquatics Director. If swimmer misbehaves and has two incidents, they will not be able to return without a parent. 

 

As recommended by the Red Cross, any child with lifejackets or puddlejumpers (no water wings allowed), who is unable to swim on his/her own, must have a parent/adult in the water with them within arm's reach.  This includes all birthday parties and overnights as well.  All lifejackets and puddlejumpers must be coast guard approved.

 

Swim attire is required in the pool and pool rules are posted in the pool and in the locker rooms.

 

DEEP WATER SWIMMING TEST

 

Children under the age of 18 are ONLY allowed to swim during designated family swim hours and open swim hours in the shallow end, unless they are a strong enough swimmer to pass a deep water swimming test. Lifeguards will issue a swim test to determine eligibility.

 

Test Criteria: Child must be able to swim one continuous length of the pool using the freestyle (front crawl) stroke with a strong kick and rhythmic breathing (face in the water), immediately followed by 1 minute of treading water, to the lifeguard or aquatic director’s satisfaction. 

POOL RULES

 

Aquatics management and lifeguards will enforce ANY rule as deemed necessary to ensure the safety of the aquatic facility and our members and guests. Patrons violating swimming rules are subject to the revocation of their swimming privileges. No refunds will be given.

 

  • Please take a shower before enter the pool.

 

  • With the exception of swim meets, special events and disabled persons, no outdoor footwear is allowed on the pool decks including sandals and flip-flops worn outside of the facility.

 

  • All swimmers must wear bathing suits. Cutoffs, gym or tennis shorts are not allowed. Clean T-shirts may be worn for modesty or medical reasons, but first must be sanctioned by the lifeguard or aquatics director and may NOT be worn in deep end.

 

  • Swim caps ENCOURAGED if hair length is below the ear or in the eyes of male and female swimmers.

 

  • No running, rough play, or excessive noise in the pool, on the pool deck, or in the locker rooms. Conduct which endangers the safety and health of himself/herself and others shall be prohibited. Such behavior shall be ground for expulsion.

 

  • Diving allowed in deep end ONLY!

 

  • Face pool when jumping.  Jump only from the edge, no running and jumping in. Jump onto feet facing forward.  No backwards, twirling or flip jumps.

 

  • Food and drinks (other than water in an appropriate plastic container) are not permitted in the pool area. No glass.

 

  • Employees are the only persons allowed in guard shack, filter room, and chemical storage areas.

 

  • Children should be encouraged to use the restroom before entering the water. Immediately report any “accidents” you observe in the pool or on the pool deck to a lifeguard or management.

 

  • Any child wearing a life vest must be within arm’s reach and directly supervised in the water by an adult over the age of 18. Life vests are available in the pool area. Instructional flotation devices (swim lesson bubbles) are not appropriate as flotation device, except in supervised swim lessons, and never replaces in-water adult supervision.

 

  • Starting blocks, kickboards and pull bouys are for competition and instructional use only.

 

  •  “Family Swim”:  ALL those swimmers 12 years old and under MUST be accompanied by parents in the pool area. Those swimmers 13-17 years of age must have parent (or guardian of 18) sign the swimmer in with the guard and list where they will be in the building.

 

  • No flotation devises in deep (including belts, PFDs & noodles) end except during a YMCA fitness classes.  Toys, aquatic exercise equipment and floats are not permitted in pool during open swim times.

 

  • Organized groups must follow our group use policies, and must be directly supervised at poolside by an adult in swim attire. All groups should schedule their visits in advance as a party in order to staff for such events. See swim party rules for adult supervision in the water.

 

  • Tornado Warning Policy – The YMCA will require immediate closure of pool in the event of a tornado warning. All swimmers are to go immediately to locker rooms and stay there until the all clear siren is sounded.

TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS FROM APPROX. JULY 9-AUG. 2 - THERE WILL BE NO LAP SWIM FROM 9:30-10:30 A.M. TO MAKE ROOM FOR OUR REDEEMER SWIM LESSONS WHICH TAKE THE ENTIRE POOL.
